Rove R2-4K – Amazon’s Favourite Budget 4K Camera

The Rove R2-4K has become one of the best-selling dash cams on Amazon, and for good reason. At £90 to £120, it delivers genuine 4K recording, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, and a super capacitor in a package that undercuts virtually every established brand. Rove has built its reputation on aggressive pricing and solid customer support, and the R2-4K is the camera that put them on the map.

Image Quality

The R2-4K records at 4K (3840×2160) at 30fps and the results are genuinely impressive for the price. Daytime footage is detailed and sharp, with colours that are slightly more saturated than reality but pleasing to the eye. Number plates are clearly legible at distances where 1080p cameras would show a blur. The 150-degree wide-angle lens provides broad coverage. There is some softness at the frame edges and dynamic range could be better in very bright conditions, but at £90 these are forgivable. Night performance is acceptable – the 4K resolution helps extract more detail than lower-resolution budget cameras, but do not expect STARVIS 2 levels of low-light performance. Well-lit urban roads produce usable footage; unlit country lanes are challenging.

Features

The feature set is comprehensive. Built-in GPS logs speed and location. Wi-Fi connects to the Rove app for settings and clip transfer, though the app is basic and transfer speeds are unremarkable. The super capacitor provides heat tolerance and reliability benefits over lithium batteries. Parking mode requires hardwiring and offers time-lapse recording. A 2.4-inch LCD screen is present for aiming and menu navigation. The camera supports microSD cards up to 512GB – generous for a budget model. Loop recording, G-sensor, and motion detection are standard inclusions.

Installation

The R2-4K uses a suction cup mount with a ball joint, which holds securely but may need occasional reattachment in extreme temperatures. The camera body is moderately sized with the screen dominating the rear face. Power is via mini USB to the included 12V adapter. Cable routing is standard. An optional hardwiring kit is available for parking mode.

Verdict

The Rove R2-4K is the best-value 4K dash cam on Amazon and a deserving bestseller at £90 to £120. It delivers 4K resolution, GPS, and super capacitor reliability at a price where most competitors are still selling 1080p cameras. The compromises – average night performance, basic app, suction cup mount – are entirely reasonable for the price. An easy recommendation for budget-conscious buyers who want 4K.
